Information: TIMING BELT REPLACEMENT

Replacement of the Timing Belt for the 164 is not required until the 50,000 mile scheduled service interval. If a Timing Belt is detensioned and removed for any reason, the Timing Belt MUST be marked so it can be reinstalled in the same direction as it was removed. However, if a Timing Belt is contaminated with fluids such as engine oil, engine coolant, and/or cleaning solvents, the Timing Belt MUST be replaced. For replacing the Timing Belt refer to the 164 Service Manual Section 00, pages 00-34 to 00-37. For correct Timing Belt tension procedure refer to Technical Bulletin Group 0l; 89.03.
