Information: Power Steering Pump Noise
Models: 1994 -1995 164 24 Valve
Date: 10/27/94
In some isolated instances a rumbling noise/vibration may be heard from within the passenger compartment, and felt through steering wheel and front fenders. The possible fault could be the power steering pump.
A good test to diagnose the possibility of noisy power steering pump is to rotate the steering wheel left or right. While turning note the disappearance of the noise/vibration. Also, if the steering wheel is released at any position the noise/ vibration returns.
A new power steering pump has been introduced into production Part # 60593248. This pump has new internal valving which eliminates the possibility of noise/vibration during idle.
This new style power steering pump can be identified from older pumps (which you may have in stock) by a white dot located on the nose of the pump shaft.
