Alfa 164 Technical Service Bulletin 40.94.01

Information: Diagnosing Cruise Control

Models: 1991 thru 1993 164 All

Date: 02/10/94

The '91 thru '93 164 Wiring Diagrams and Electrical Diagnoses Manual, pg. 166 & pg. 168, have the pin numbers incorrectly printed for the cruise control ECU (N39). The correct numbering of the pins should be the exact reverse ie; 1=14,2 =13,3 =12 and so on. Therefore, pin # references shown in the guided diagnostics found on pages 176 through 184 are also incorrect.

Please use the attached wiring diagram to update your manual. Rather than rewrite the guided test plan, we have developed a new wire by wire, diagnostic procedure (outlined below).

To perform steps 1,2,3,& 4; Remove the right side console carpet panel, then without unplugging the ECU's connector, remove Cruise Control ECU.
Step #1: Tests voltage with vehicle stationary.
Step #2: Test voltage while driving and actuating the cruise control. This test must be performed using an assistant.
Step #3: Tests voltage with car static and the ECU disconnected.
Step #4: Tests resistance (ohms) with the car static and the ECU disconnected.

NOTE: LED tester p/n 8113, is available for a quick test of this Dana system, however, for intermittent problems, it will be to your benefit to perform steps 1 &2 before disturbing any electrical connectors.

The corrected pages are not included due to space limitations. If anyone needs them (you would need the manual for the complete procedure), contact me and I'll scan and mail them to you.
