After performing the "Clear Codes" sequence for an Airbag ECU ( see bulletin # 00.91.05). The Airbag ECU warning light will inform the technician of one of three important factors when he turns the ignition key back on.

  1. The warning light will come on steady for approximately six sec. - then go off and after approximately three sec. - it will begin to flash steadily. This means that the ECU has been cleared successfully of fault codes, but when it went through its self test, it found there still exists a fault in the system.
    OR
  2. The warning light will come on steady for approximately six sec. - then go off and remain off. This means that all fault codes have been successfully cleared and that no fault is present at this time.
    OR
  3. The warning light starts flashing as soon as the ign. key is turned on and continues to flash. This means that the ECU has not been cleared sucessfully of fault codes. This could be caused by incorrect procedures, timing or equipment. (i.e. The technician took five seconds rather than three, etc.)

KEEPING THESE THREE FACTORS IN MIND WILL HELP MINIMIZE CONFUSION WHEN CLEARING FAULT CODES.
