Information: Airbag Fault Code 51

The Airbag ECU can produce a fault code 51 when the ECU unit itself has an interruption to ground.
Most frequently a code 51 is caused by removing the ECU without disconnecting the electrical harness before unbolting and removing the ground wire from the unit - OR - during installation of the ECU, connecting the unit to the electrical harness before attaching the ground wire and bolting the unit to its mount.
Follow the instructions on the face of the Airbag ECU, " This unit must be grounded before any electrical connections are made." For assistance diagnosing a code 51, please refer to TSB # 45.93.03 page 5/5.
CODE 51 ---The procedure for clearing is same as any of the other codes.
CODES- 52.53,54 -- Are permanent fault codes and cannot be cleared. The Airbag ECU must be replaced if fault codes 52,53,54, are displayed.
