My AC became starting erraticly, and suddenly it does not start. I been reading, downloading and printing a lot of good material from digest archives and alfa-pro. I live in El Salvador, Central America, our local dealer has a lousy reputation, they will charge almost $1,200 for labor + parts. I´m afraid about dismantling dashboard because i don´t know other mechanic that is familiar with the particularities of this car- I wanted to sell my 164 3.0 because i can´t fix my AC, but Alfas in my country have a very little resale value and interest because dealer reputation and lack of parts, no one wanted my car!!!.
Can it be other than the stepper motors?
What electrical diagnostic can i make to know exactly what is happening?
How can i turn off the system?, i believed it always run in auto or econ.

I will apreciate any suggestion in list or in my e-mail: totalsecurity@telemovil.net

Sounds more like the blower than the
steppers. Do you ever hear any clicking?

There is a diagnostic test for the A/C. See
it at
http://www.digest.net/alfa/FAQ/164/notes_
80.htm#codes

Try that first. If you don't get any fault
codes, then hopefully someone with
more experience than me can help you.

I made the diagnostic, it gave me 7U and 8U, in the case I performed it well, I wil try this weekend again. It was my wife car, never aware of clickings related with steppers, only the fan stoped blowing air, never used hot air.
