I blew my engine and have been quoted between $10,000 and $15,000 Cdn. to rebuild it! Seems like a lot to me and the car is otherwise sound with recent repairs far in excess of what the dealer is willing to pay me as a project car.

Anyway, I really dont need the car but it is my fourth Alfa and I kinda hate to see it die although I am currently driving a
BMW and it does get me around ok.

So as I see it my options are to get a new engine and drop it in, repair the present one myself as a project over a period of time, or sell the thing either as in pieces or in total. It is worth a lot more than the couple of grand I have been offered I think but I havent done much research.

Does anyone have a reliable engine for a 164LS or know where I can get one and for how much?

Thanks, Please dont close this forum, i enjoy reading it often even if I dont have a lot to contribute.

Many options. You can import an used one from Europe, little bit of hassle but if done right price could be very low. I've been following some of the thread here and used 24valve V6 can be had for around $1000 US dollar. And ocean freight and other importing fees can't be more than $500. Other options, try alfa exchange at http://www.apedirect.com/ They seem to have many late 164s parted out.
Also you can try www.car-parts.com. it's a national search engine for many participation wrecking yards. I found one LS engine with 72K miles for $2950. And lastly, linearrossa has a brand new engine for $5650 US dollar. Bit expensive but you get a factory new engine. Try it at
