"Bubbles bubbles and more bubbles"

the coolant tank of my 12V 3.0L: the smallest pipe which connects to the highest part, and flows INTO the tank pushes out bubbles into the tank when reved hard, which in turn causes unnecessary pressure in the tank, and then forces coolant out through the pressure release cap. What the heck is this - a fracture in the cylinder head gasket? Would torquing down the heads again help? i am due to have the heads whipped off, but would like to know what it is

Maybe just a bad cap on tank check relief valve springs inside cap.

But it could be a leaking head gasket.

The bubble thing is what our '91L is doing. The engine came from another '91L, along with the A/T that was the reason for the swap. I should have swapped transmissions and kept its original engine, but you never know that until you know that. I'm expecting to do head gaskets some weekend when I'm not swamped with other things or with rain (I have to work outside just now). I'll be doing a compression check to isolate which bank of cylinders the problem is in. I hope it's the front head, but I might do both heads.

Well, about 8 days ago I buttoned up the car from a head gasket replacement. It showed clear signs on the _front_ head of having the #6 cylinder blow by into the gasket on top of the fire ring. The gasket was bowed toward the block, with burned signs and a penetration from the top side of the gasket into the coolant reservoir.

Because I've learned not to be overly optimistic, and because I already had the timing belt off and nearly every thing else done to pull the rear head, I pulled it. No apparent problems. But I know now. I buttoned her back up with new FIAT issue gaskets (Reinz brand) purchased from DiFatta. The gaskets had a waxy coated feel to them, so I didn't apply the Permatex spray copper sealer I'd purchased for this purpose. The heads and block surfaces looked good, without obvious pitting. This may have been this engine's first time being open since Italy, but I'm not absolutely certain. I felt a little bad about buttoning it back up without so much as attention to the head, but there it was. I needed it in service. It's running fine now, and in a couple of weeks I'll need to re-torque its heads.

No bubbles now.

Michael

can you believe I still haven't had this done, world recession doesn't help. Would you reckon re-torquing the heads may help? They were done about 8 years ago
